Last night, Season 12 of "American Idol" finally premiered, following months of tabloid hype surrounding the feud brewing between new diva judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. But even in this any-publicity-is-good-publicity age, all that controversy didn't seem to give the retooled series a boost, with ratings down a troubling 19 percent from last year's opener, and many longtime "Idol" fans--including me and my "The Day After" co-host, Matt Whitfield--left feeling disappointed and disgruntled by the episode's overemphasis on petty judging-table drama.
What did you think of last night's "Idol" premiere? Do you think the show is in trouble? Is this the right direction for "Idol"? How did Mariah, Nicki, and Keith Urban do? Watch our discussion above, and feel free to chime in with your own thoughts in the comments section below.
