Coachella: Canadian acts to look forward to

Last year, Coachella kicked off in Indio, California with some of the finest voices in Canadian music like Arcade Fire and Chromeo. This year, the second weekend of the famed music festival is also ripe with homegrown talent with acts like the Sheepdogs, Feist and Dragonette all set to appear for their second round of performances.

On Friday, April 20, the Sheepdogs will kick off the festival's second weekend after their successful April 13 performance and whirlwind year of touring and Juno Award wins.

Known for their tunes infused with elements of "classic, psychedelic, and boogie rock," they are sure to be one of the upcoming weekend's most anticipated acts.

The Saskatoon foursome, consisting of members Ewan Currie, Leot Hanson, Ryan Gullen and Sam Corbett, jumped on tour with John Fogerty in March, which prevented them from personally accepting their three Juno Awards at the beginning of April.

The band, who less than a year ago became the first unsigned act to ever appear on the cover of Rolling Stone, picked up the awards for Best New Group, Rock Album of the Year and Single of the Year at the 2012 Juno Awards.

On Saturday April 21, one of Canada's favourite female indie artists, Feist, will take the stage at Coachella's outdoor theatre for the second time during the festival, while Toronto based band, Dragonette, is set take over the Mojave stage for a second round.

Feist recently picked up three Juno Awards for Artist of the Year, Music DVD of the Year, and Adult Alternative Album of the Year, while Dragonette broke Deadmau5's four year winning streak by grabbing the award for Dance Recording of the Year.

Both Feist and Dragonette have had quite the start to 2012 and will bring elements of Canadian folk rock and electro-pop, respectively, to this year's Coachella.

Other Canadian acts expected to appear for the second time this weekend include Toronto's Zeds Dead, The Airplane Boys and The Weeknd, in addition to Montreal's Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Vancouver's Destroyer.
