Drake finally broke his losing streak by winning the Juno for Rap Recording of the Year for his album, "Take Care." This is the rapper's first win since 2010 when he won in the same category for his debut album, "So Far Gone."

Drake was expected to walk away with Junos last year, especially since he was the show's host and a huge fan favourite. His album "Thank Me Later" was a platinum seller but he walked away empty-handed.

The most shocking event of the evening came when an indie band from Hamilton, Ont., the Arkells, beat out Nickelback, the Sam Roberts Band, Down With Webster and Hedley, for Group of the Year. After accepting the award on stage, singer Max Kerman said, "We're excited for all the vitriol from the Hedley fans on Twitter who are going to be angry."

Saskatoon's The Sheepdogs picked up two Juno Awards, including, New Group of the Year and Rock Album of the Year for "Learn & Burn." The band was not present to accept their award, because they are currently on tour with John Fogerty in Australia, but tweeted from the road, "Just heard we won Rock Album Of The Year at the #JUNOAwards. Very excited. Is 8am in Perth too early to start celebratory drinking?"

Another artist to win twice over was Nova Scotian songstress, Feist. She picked up awards in the categories of Adult Alternative Album of the Year for her disc "Metals" and Music DVD of the Year for her documentary film, "Look At What The Light Did Now." Upon receiving her award, the grateful singer/songwriter said, "I'm proud that I get to keep writing records."

For their commitment to helping children suffering from depression, poverty, illness and the effects of war, Simple Plan was honoured with the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award at the gala.

The band was proud to become youngest recipients to ever receive it and frontman, Pierre Bouvier said, "This is an amazing honour and very special moment for our band. We'll never forget it. The [Simple Plan Foundation] has become an integral part of our band and who we are as people."
