Drake only Canadian artist to win at 55th annual Grammy Awards

Sometimes, it’s an honour just to be nominated.

Canada had a hard time at the 55th annual Grammy Awards as rapper Drake was the only Canaidan artist to win a trophy, taking home Best Rap Album for “Take Care.”

“I just tore the sleeve off my Saint Laurent!!!” he tweeted after his big win. “Thank you all! I am so happy!”

However, not everyone was as lucky as Drake and Canadian musicians like Carly Rae Jepsen, Michael Bublé and deadmau5 were among those who lost out.

Jepsen was the evening’s biggest upset as her track “Call Me Maybe” lost to Adele’s “Set Fire To The Rain [Live]” for Best Pop Solo Performance and to fun.'s "We are Young" for Song of the Year.

Marianas Trench frontman and “Call Me Maybe” co-writer Josh Ramsay called the loss before the awards show, tweeting on Feb. 9, “Not expecting us to win tomorrow, but i'm feeling incredibly grateful to have made it this far. More about the journey than the destination.”

Another disappointment was Bublé’s holiday album “Christmas” losing to Paul McCartney’s “Kisses on the Bottom” for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and deadmau5’s “> Album Title Goes Here <” losing to Skrillex’s “Bangarang” for Best Dance/Electronica Album.

The Canadian DJ took to Twitter after the award for Best Dance/Electronica Album was announced, with kind words for Skrillex, writing, “Congrats to @skrillex for #6... I saw that in him years ago. Proud of the goblin as always.”

However one bright moment was when the late Canadian pianist Glenn Gould received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

More Canadians who didn’t win a Grammy in their respective categories include Tamia, Arcade Fire, Melanie Fiona, Loreena McKennitt, Howard Shore and Tegan and Sara.
