Drake’s “Started From The Bottom” released early

In a post addressed to his “good friends,” Toronto rapper Drake debuted his new single “Started From The Bottom” on his October’s Very Own blog on Feb. 1.

The 26-year-old artist was projected to drop the new track the same night as the 55th annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 10, but decided instead to premiere it alongside a blog about the song.

“My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen,” he wrote. “I didn't feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me."

“Started From The Bottom” features the story of Drake’s road to fame. This theme is present in lyrics like, “I done kept it real from the jump/ Living at my mama’s house we'd argue every month/ Ni**a, I was trying to get it on my own/Working all night, traffic on the way home…Ni**a, I just think its funny how it goes/Now I’m on the road, half a million for a show.”

Produced by Mike Zombie, the tune has already been remixed by rappers Wiz Khalifa and Soulja Boy.

“Bein that im in the studio all the time and ima huge fan of music in general iss only right that out of drunkness and highness i drop this,” Khalifa tweeted on Feb. 3. “I know that song juss came out lol but i think it speaks to all of us so i put my verse on it before everyone else does :-).”

As we previously reported, the music video for the song seems to have already been filmed with the clip’s director, Director X, saying, “[Drake’s] one of those guys that want to spend the money to make great video. That’s what he did. He went for it. He did his best to make a great video.”
