Jimmy Kimmel tricks Coachella festivalgoers into saying they’ve heard of bands that don’t exist

In a segment called “Lie Witness News -- Coachella 2013,” late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel sends a camera crew to The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., and asks attendees questions about bands that don’t exist.

The hope was to catch concertgoers lying about being aware of the groups in question, which were all (save for Two Door Cinema Club, who actually played Coachella this year) completely made up.

“More than 60 bands played at Coachella this year,” Kimmel explains before launching the video. “Some of them big bands, some of the not so big, some of them up-and-coming bands. Music fans, in general, love knowing about bands that no one else has ever heard of.”

The clip is pretty funny, but will leav you shaking your head while watching fan after fan admit to knowing about bands like “Dr. Shlomo and the G.I. Clinic,” "The Obesity Epidemic" and "Regis and the Philbins."

At one point, Kimmel’s correspondent even asks a festival attendee, “Did you know that Coachella is actually the American-Indian word for ‘dumb white guy?’”

However, YouTube viewers have begun to question the authenticity of the video, which has gone viral with almost 2.7 million views at press time since being posted on April 23.

“The interviewer's questions were clearly recorded separately,” one viewer commented. “You can tell by the reverb.”

Wrote another: “Am i the only one here that thinks that the questions were edited (added later to make it funny), and the footage is just people reacting to REAL bands?”
