Kelly Clarkson covers Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”

Throughout her current "Stronger" tour, Kelly Clarkson has performed fan-requested songs during each show by artists such as Britney Spears, Eminem and Shania Twain.

And now the inaugural "American Idol" Kelly Clarkson has finally covered Carly Rae Jepsen's song of the summer, "Call Me Maybe."

Watch: "Call Me Maybe"

During her set at the MixTape Festival in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the 30-year-old performed Jepsen's infectious pop song prefacing it by rhetorically asking if anyone knew who the B.C. native was and if they had ever heard the track before.

"Tonight, [a fan] picked this song, and actually a ton of other people picked this song too, and they've been picking it every show and I haven't done it yet," Clarkson says in the clip. "Anybody know Carly Rae Jepsen? Anybody know 'Call Me Maybe?' I'm still slightly confused [by the lyrics] because I'm like 'Boy, you better call me or just leave it alone,' I don't get the 'maybe' part."

After voicing her opinion on the catchy lyrics, the "Mr. Know It All" hitmaker launched into an acoustic rendition of the song.

"Oh my gosh, I love that song, but it kind of confuses me," Clarkson said after her performance referencing the song's lyric "Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad." "Who did you miss?" Clarkson asked, "Because you didn't know them!"

As it turns out, Clarkson was a mentor to Jepsen when she was a contestant on "Canadian Idol" and shared the story with the crowd, saying, "She was actually in the group that I was mentoring when I did the show, random! She's super sweet and super cute."

While on "Canadian Idol" Clarkson called Jepsen's voice "cute and distinct" and had some advice for her about how to survive in the industry, saying, "The key is to surround yourself with good people…and you love music, you can tell." Adding, "As long as that's your first passion and it's not about being the most famous person or having the most and you can keep this as your main goal, you'll be fine."

She also said of Jepsen during the broadcast, "She's the most comfortable. She knows exactly what she wants to do and where she wants to go [and] that's a hard step to get to."

Jepsen also performed at the MixTape Festival and it's a wonder with all of the collaborations between The Wanted, 98 Degrees, New Kids On The Block and the Backstreet Boys that occurred, Clarkson and Jepsen didn't end up sharing the stage as well.

Well, there's always next time!
