Lana Del Rey performs Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” in Australia

During her concert at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, Australia, on July 26, YouTube phenomenon turned Interscope Records recording artist Lana Del Rey made a brave decision and treated her fans to a cover of Nirvana's classic track, "Heart-Shaped Box."

Trading the usual grit provided by Nirvana's late lead singer, Kurt Cobain, for a more whimsical rendition, the 26-year-old's version is almost unrecognizable at the top of the tune, but nonetheless, was probably a big moment for the avid grunge band fan.

"When I was 11, I saw Kurt Cobain singing 'Heart Shaped Box' on MTV and it really stopped me dead in my tracks," Del Rey said during an interview last year. "I thought he was the most beautiful person I had ever seen. Even at a young age, I really related to his sadness."

She also said, "I never revisited his music again until I was about 17 or 18, and then when I did, it still meant just as much to me then. It's continued to be my primary inspiration — in terms of not wanting to compromise lyrically or sonically."

Del Rey is not the first young female artist to attempt a Nirvana cover as 19-year-old Miley Cyrus has also been known to perform band's track "Smells Like Teen Spirit" during her shows.
