This year, the MuchMusic Video Awards are being taken over by Vancouver band, Marianas Trench, who leads the nominations in seven categories.

The foursome, consisting of members Josh Ramsay, Matt Webb, Mike Ayley and Ian Casselman, always shock and surprise on the red carpet and are returning this year for another show-stopping performance.

The Canadian pop-punk outfit started out as a twosome featuring frontman Ramsay and guitarist Webb in a band called Ramsay's Fiction in 2001.

However, the project was short lived and after finding a drummer, Casselman, and a bassist, Ayley, the band known as Marianas Trench launched in 2006 with their debut disc "Fix Me" under Nickelback frontman Chad Kroger's label 604 Records.

After the success of "Fix Me" and the album's third single "Shake Tramp," which earned them their first Juno Award nomination for Video of the Year in 2008, the band took their time in releasing their much anticipated follow up record, "Masterpiece Theatre."

"Masterpiece Theatre" debuted at number four on the Canadian Albums chart and delivered the band's first platinum record in Canada in addition to spawning hit singles like "Cross My Heart," "All To Myself," and "Beside You." The music video for "Cross My Heart" also won the band their first MMVA for Director of the Year in 2009.

Last November, Marianas Trench debuted their third studio effort, "Ever After," and earned their second Juno Award nomination for Pop Album of the Year. The prize ultimately went to Hedley's record, "Storms," but that couldn't take away from the honour the band felt to just be nominated.

"We feel very good about the nomination," Ayley said in an interview with MuchMusic's "New.Music.Live." "That's pretty positive."

In an effort to promote the album, which has since gone platinum in Canada and peaked at number five on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, the band embarked on a tour supporting Montreal pop-punk band, Simple Plan.

Today, Marianas Trench is getting ready to release their new music video for the third single off "Ever After" titled "Desperate Measures" and are currently on tour in the United States with concert dates north of the border later this June.

"'Ever After' is a top candidate for one of the best pop-rock albums of 2012," the Alternative Press wrote in review of the fairy-tale concept record. "Marianas Trench are the real deal."
