NKOTB tells Yahoo! Canada Music why their Canadian fans are ‘sassy’

In June, the New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) will make several stops in Canada while on “The Package Tour,” and members Jordan Knight and Danny Wood tell Yahoo! Music Canada that there is something unique about their Canadian fans.

“The fans here are sassy,” Knight said. “They have a nice exterior but behind all that there’s a lot of Canadian sassiness. I know because I’m Canadian myself -- I have dual citizenship.”

Canadian NKOTB fans seem to have a particular place in Wood’s heart because they were present during the first show of the band’s reunion tour back in 2008.

“They got a special energy up here,” Wood explained. “Toronto is a special place for us because when we got back together, we opened the whole tour here and that was a unique experience for me because I don’t really get nervous.”

He continued: "I get excited, but I don’t get nervous and that’s one of the first times, aside from in the very beginning, where I was nervous. When we came up on the lift that first night at the Air Canada Centre, it was like it was 1990 again. The sound of the crowd was not as high-pitched, but it was loud, it was the same. The fans over here have always been supportive.”

Joining NKOTB on the road this time will be Boyz II Men and the newly-reunited 98 Degrees. It sounds like the tour will be a great “ladies night out” full of music and a few surprises.

“We’ll be showing a little skin for sure,” Knight said with a laugh. “It just gets really hot up there and we feel like tearing our clothes off. It has nothing to do with trying to show off or get the ladies crazy; it gets hot under the lights. So, you gotta take your clothes off.”

In addition to a new tour, NKOTB has released their tenth album, aptly titled “10,” which is their first since their departure from Interscope and doesn’t feature any outside artists. (Their last album, “The Block,” featured singers like Ne-Yo, Lady Gaga, Akon, New Edition, The Pussycat Dolls and Teddy Riley.)

This time around, Knight says that the fans just wanted the group, and it seems like they were happy to deliver.

“There were a lot of artists ready to collaborate with us right when we walked through the door, that’s why there are so many collaborations on [‘The Block’],” Knight said. “It’s also a good selling point for Interscope to be able to link us up with well-known artists to sell their product. This [album], we didn’t have that kind of pressure … The fans want us. They want the New Kids on the Block and that’s it. So, we thought it was good move to just keep it at home base and do it like that.”
