Radiohead pays tribute to fallen drum tech after stage collapse

After a deadly stage collapse claimed the life of one of their crew members before their show at Toronto's Downsview Park last month, U.K. band Radiohead took to the stage earlier this week and paid tribute to their fallen drum tech and friend, Scott Johnson.

As Rolling Stone reports, this was Radiohead's first rescheduled show since the collapse and during their third encore on Tuesday night at Les Arenes in Nimes, France, the band played their track "Reckoner" with images of Johnson on the screen behind them.

Twitter user @fittr_happier posted an image of the tribute following the performance. It shows images of Johnson filling the screen while the band played the "In Rainbows" album track.

According to the BBC, the 33-year-old was caught and trapped under the collapsed stage in Downsview Park on June 16 an hour before the show was about to begin and Tony Bellavance, Fire Services Platoon Chief in Toronto, said, "It was a crushing injury that killed the man."

Following the stage's collapse that also injured three other people, Radiohead drummer Philip Selway took to the band's website and wrote, "We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott's family and all those close to him."

In addition, the drummer followed up writing at the end of June, "Thanks to all of you who have sent messages of support over these past couple of weeks. Scott has touched many people's lives and all your sentiments are testament to this. Our thoughts and love remain with Scott's family."

Before they honoured their fallen crew member, Radiohead also gave an unanticipated performance of the "Kid A" album track "Treefingers" as seen in the video below.

Currently, four companies have been asked to comply with the investigation including Toronto's Optex Staging and Services, Inc., Nasco Staffing Solutions, London-based Ticker Tape Touring LLP and the concert's promoter, Live Nation.
