Sound CheckRush inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Their history at the Juno Awards
On April 18, Canadian rockers Rush will be inducted to the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame, with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins paying tribute to the iconic band.
This weekend, the Toronto trio may also add a few more Juno Awards to their list of achievements, as they are nominated for Group of the Year and Rock Album of the Year with their latest effort “Clockwork Angels.”
Rush, consisting of members Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee and Neil Peart, has had a pretty impressive track record with the Canadian music awards show, earning 40 nominations and winning eight.
Their first win was in 1975 for Most Promising Group of the Year and they were inducted to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame during the 1994 show.
When it comes to Group of the Year, Rush has taken home the honour twice: The first time in 1978 and the second in 1979. Both times, they beat out "Raise a Little Hell" hitmakers Trooper.
In 1991, their record “Presto” earned Best Hard Rock / Metal Album and in 1992, they won Hard Rock Album of the Year with “Roll The Bones.”
This year, they’ll face off against Big Wreck, Billy Talent, The Sheepdogs and The Tragically Hip in the Rock Album of the Year category, and we can bet that at least some of these bands not only grew up listening to Rush but know more than one of their tunes by heart.
