Eight-year-old girl shreds guitar and goes viral

Zoe Thomson can play the guitar better than you.

From the time she was six years old, Thomson has been covering the likes of Linkin Park, Metallica and Guns N' Roses. A student at the Newbury Rock School in Berkshire, U.K., the pint-sized guitarist spends her days playing music with other kids her age and being mentored by bands like U.K.'s The Crave, New Device and Tin Soldiers. Her videos have garnered millions of views and show that you can be an amazing musician at any age.

Oh, and she's only eight years old.

A video of Thomson playing the guitar to Stratovarius' "Stratosphere" is quickly going viral.

Upon seeing this video, Twitter began buzzing with compliments and words of utter shock. Here are a few examples:

@eventsgeek tweets: If I have kids some day, I can only hope she/he will be this musically gifted.

@groovehouse tweets: Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor.

@JedediahBila tweets: This kid is so much cooler than I am.

Currently, Thomson plays lead guitar and is the only girl in a children's U.K. rock group called The Mini Band. Their performance of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" gained the rock band's attention and inspired them to send a special message of encouragement to the youngsters.  During the video, drummer Lars Ulrich comments, "You guys rock! You guys are very cool!" Teasingly adding, "Maybe someday we can work something out? We could come out and open up for all y'all, if you guys will have us. We're just getting started. We're an up-and-coming hard rock band out in Northern California, so if you'll have us, we're there for the taking."

Watching these kids makes one realize that the future of rock is a bright one.

I'm sick of the word stunned. It seems to be one of yahoo's favourite words. The word
stunned is getting to be as sickening as "baby bump".

Actually Tony Macalpine is the best. And then there are the unknowns like myself who arent dependent on fans to earn a living yet earn $100K working in a hospital and can shred and make music how they want to on keyboards and guitar. Orianthi-yeh that's funny. Please.

Wow, Zazen5. Maybe they can treat your NPD at that hospital you work at?

Watch behind the scenes of "Find The Time". I suppose the kid banging on the drums is fake too. Read and watch all there is before spewing out your verbal diarrhea and stop being so damn jealous. Their goal here wasn't to put the video up so you all could determine whether it's fake or not. You no like..... you get lost!

I think she is awsome. As for the posts before me, obviously they are having trouble distinguishing the live from the recorded. She brought tears to my eyes to see such a natural. Just amazing. The video of her at 6 years old is .....well left me without words. She could hardly hold the guitar up, yet so marvelously played.

Hard to tell what this girl's actually playing because of the backing track. Maybe they should post something that actually proves or disproves her talent so that all these holier-than-thou commenters (on both sides of the discussion) can assess her talent honestly. As for me, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt because not many kids are capable of perpetrating the kind of fraud of which she is being accused.

i'v played guitar for 15 years, and i know when a persons faking. she was on the wrong fret several times and you couldn't hear it because the track was blocking her out. If you notice, she's not picking enough... EVEN IF it's a hammer on/off, after several times the sound should diminish, listen to it, it doesn't. The band doesn't look real, i think the only reason the cameras shaking so much is because then you won't be able to tell if they are actually playing, (some of the cords they play aren't real ones!)
