myLAUNCH_Host: EAGLE-EYE CHERRY IS IN. THE INTERVIEW WILL BE FOR 30 MINUTES. HE IS ON THE SET OF THE TONIGHT SHOW. AND IS PREPARING FOR HIS DRESS REHEARSAL.
Goldleader: Eagle-Eye: Are you nervous about your appearance on the Tonight Show?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Most definitely. But as we've been rehearsing it feels better and better.
Drothman: Hello Eagle-Eye, you are a great musician, and I really don't have anything to ask, but I am dying to see you in concert in the Philadelphia are but it doesn't seem you are coming here, or are you?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: They're just getting my tour schedule right now, so if you can hold on a second. I do know I'm going to Philly but I don't know exactly when.
Bliss17: How long have you been singing?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I guess about two and a half years.
Guest_449850: greetings from Toronto
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Yes I am, playing the Reverb Room in Toronto on August 27th.
EagleEyeCherryfan: Your song is a big success, and taking America by storm. Will you be doing any upcoming concerts or any other things?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: We'll be doing a lot of playing in the States and unfortunately I can't be everywhere. I have to go to Europe for a while and then I'll come back here.
Fah_Q: Don't take it the wrong way, but to me, it seems like you just came out of nowhere. I'm sure that is not the case, but could you give me a brief history of you?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: hehe I'll give you a brief musical history. The album was released in Europe at the beginning of the year, things have gone incredibly well over there, but we have to save the best for last, so here we are in the States.
myrene: who backs you up on the album? are they the same as your touring band. congratulations on your fine debut.
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Pretty much, yes--mostly Swedes.
Tech4771: with all of your family singing , how much time do you spend with your family?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: It goes in waves, certain years I see my family more than other times. Being so busy, I see them very rarely.
myrene: hello from manila
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I would love to go to Manila...but it's not in my immediate future.
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Hey, Jay Leno just walked by!
launchthis: When will we see you live in LA?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Next Tuesday, so that's August 18th at the Roxy.
Goldleader: If you could tour with any group playing today, who would you choose to tour with?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Hard question. Maybe the Dave Matthews Band would be nice.
myrene: are you actually singing something in "desireless" (the song)?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I'm singing something, but I don't know what exactly it is. It's my father's song, and it's probably just nonsense words that sounded good.
Bliss17: Do you write all your stuff?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Yes I do. Certain songs I work with someone else, but the majority of songs I've written myself.
EagleEyeCherryfan: "Save Tonight" is a great song. any plans for a song with your sibling?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Thank you. It will happen one day, we've talked about it. It's just really hard to get our schedules to gel.
Fah_Q: If you were to assemble your "Greatest Band Ever," who would you chose to have backing you (living or passed on)?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Another hard question. I'd get John Bonham on drums, Jimi Hendrix on guitar, maybe Ron Clark on bass...it would be a weird band.
Goldleader: While growing up, which artist/groups were you a fan of?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: A lot of '70s music, everything from Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Neil Young...
plucker98: Where did the concept to the "Save Tonight" video come from?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I didn't want to make a video with lots of cuts and edits in it, you see so much of that. We decided to do a video that was the opposite of that.
plucker98: Was it a difficult decision to take on a career in a competitive business such as music where you are practically competing with your sister, Neneh?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: If it was difficult in the sense of having seen the business from behind the scenes, but once I started writing songs that people wanted to hear, I couldn't stay away.
Goldleader: Favorite movies?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I'm a big fan of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Apocalypse Now...
Guest_449850: Eagle-Eye I can't find your CD anywhere in Toronto...what do i do?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: The album has been released in the States, and I would think it's been released in Canada, but if not, it would be very soon.
plucker98: Eagle-Eye is definitely a unique name. Who named you and what is the significance of your name?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: My father named me Eagle Eye. The story goes that he was looking at his new son sleeping in the crib, when I woke up, I only opened one eye.
myrene: did you have any previous bands/solo stints as a musician?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I was mainly a drummer in my earlier days in New York. I played around with various bands.
Goldleader: What do you think of the band Hanson? How about Marilyn Manson?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I don't think of them very much. I've heard of Marilyn Manson but I haven't really listened to the music.
EagleEyeCherryfan: Who is your hero?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Probably Bob Dylan, best lyricist of this century.
plucker98: Which band is better: Oasis or Blur?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: That question must be coming from the U.K.! For me, Oasis.
Guest_447628: Eagle-Eye, what is your favorite song off of your new record?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: They're all my little babies! But "Save Tonight" is the one that got everything going.
souadou: why did you leave NYC?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I got sick of the pace and intensity of a city as big as New York.
Goldleader: What do you do in your free time?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Play soccer, cook food, read.
souadou: why aren't you doing a concert in Montreal?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Maybe next time!
EagleEyeCherryfan: How do I get an Autograph?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: That's a good question. Send a letter to the Work Group.
Goldleader: Have you set some goals you hope to reach in life? And if so, what are they?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: I've gotten to experience so much. I'm pretty much there, including playing on the Tonight Show. My main goal is to make lots of records.
Fah_Q: Do you have any "rituals" or routines you go thru before playing live shows?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Not really, I'm not the superstitious type really. Try to warm up with the band, mainly.
Bliss17: What's your favorite food to cook?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Very good question. Mainly Italian.
Goldleader: Do you have a favorite author?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Zola, maybe.
myrene: how'd you put the band on your record together? are they your touring band as well?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Yes, they are my touring band. It was just kind of a discovery process while making the record, finding the people I wanted to work with.
EagleEyeCherryfan: Favorite Sport?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Soccer, definitely. I got to go to my first World Cup game this year. It was very exciting!
plucker98: Do you think if I leave my homepage address with you, that you could sign my guestbook?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: We can try.
plucker98: Cool!! It's at http://www.geocities.com/area51/hollow/9844/
souadou: how many languages do you speak?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Two. Swedish and English.
plucker98: I've heard people label you as a "cross between Lenny Kravitz and Ben Harper." What do you think of that?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Two great artists, so I don't mind getting compared to them. But of course I feel like what I'm doing is different, but don't we all?
Guest_447628: do you have a girl friend?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Yes, I do. She's the reason I ended up in Stockholm.
myrene: i read somewhere that you weren't too keen on writing love songs. some of the sweetest songs on your album are love songs (not the cliched sappy kind tho')
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: It's not that I'm not keen on writing love songs. It's just that I find that's the hardest thing to do. It often sounds like a cliche. But when I do write one, I'm quite happy. For example, "Save Tonight" is a love song.
souadou: you still haven't answered my question Montreal loves your music so why aren't you touring here?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: On this particular night, we couldn't get over there. But I'm sure we will get over there at some point.
myrene: do you think you'll ever write a Swedish song?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Not for myself, but maybe for another artist.
Bliss17: What instruments can you play?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Drums, piano, guitar.
EagleEyeCherryfan: Do you have an Email address or a mailing address you can give out?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: No, I don't. Once again, write to the record company. I have to get that stuff set up, it's been moving so fast!
OrenTamir: I would like to know If Eagle eye has been to Toronto before...If not I'll give him a tour.
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Yes, I have. I have some good friends in Toronto and I love it there. I can't wait to come there and play.
EagleEyeCherryfan : Are you currently touring w/ anyone?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Morley, a girl singer. Very good music.
Guest_447628: Is "Save Tonight" for your girlfriend? Did you have to leave her for work?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: When I wrote it, I wasn't leaving as much as I am. The irony is, the more success the song brings, the more my life becomes the song.
plucker98: Do you agree with artists that do advertisements? If yes, would you do one yourself?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: It depends. It's a decision I'll have to make when confronted by it.
Bliss17: Do you write your own stuff?
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Yes, I do. Some songs I've worked together with someone, but most of the stuff I've written myself.
EAGLE-EYE_CHERRY: Thanks for hanging out and chatting, and I hope to see you out there when I'm playing at the closest town nearby. I have to go rehearse now! Bye!
myLAUNCH_Host: Eagle-Eye has to leave to rehearse now for his appearance tonight on The Tonight Show. Be sure to watch him tonight at 11:30pm on the Tonight show! It's his first TV appearance in the U.S.!
