Trick Daddy Goes Gold And Readies 'I'm A Thug'

(5/6/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- Trick Daddy scored his third consecutive gold album recently when his latest set, Thugs Are Us, cleared sales of 500,000 copies. The collection was fueled by the lead single, "Take It To Da House" featuring the SNS Express, which is currently Number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

Next week Trick Daddy will release the second single from the album, " I'm A Thug," with an accompanying video directed by Nick Quested. LAUNCH recently caught up with Trick Daddy and asked him why the thug theme is so prevalent in his music.

"I express the streets on my records. That's all I know," he said. "I don't know nothing else. Even if I had a college degree--doctor's, master's--even if I hadn't went to prison, if I was a football player or a basketball player, I would still be ghetto because that's who I was brought up. So maybe it was meant for me to be in this type of profession because imagine somebody with my mentality and attitude on the football field, then there would be another Ray Lewis situation or Rae Carruth situation."
