Queen Latifah Offers Explanation For Blowing Off BET Awards

(6/27/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- Rapper and actress Queen Latifah was noticeably absent from the 3rd Annual BET Awards which were held on Tuesday night (June 24) at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The artist won an award in the best actress category but wasn't present to accept it because she was in Vancouver working on a movie, according to SOHH.com.

Speculation had been swirling about a possible beef between Queen Latifah and the network, but her publicist offered the following explanation for her absence: "Latifah has a great relationship with BET. She couldn't attend because she's filming a movie in Vancouver. Queen Latifah has been on the set of Scary Movie 3 and it's been hectic because they have to complete her part in three weeks."

Scary Movie 3 is the third installation in the Scary Movie series. The film will be directed by David Zucker and will also star Fat Joe, Anna Faris, Charlie Sheen, Regina Hall, Eddie Griffin, and Pamela Anderson. In the movie, Faris' character Cindy is given special powers and attempts to rid the world of evil.
