Third Eye Blind Not 'Blinded' To Success

(5/9/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Third Eye Blind's Out Of The Vein will hit stores on Tuesday (May 13), and the first single, "Blinded (When I See You)," is garnering airplay on several different radio formats. It's been three years since the release of the band's third album, Blue.

Vocalist/songwriter Stephan Jenkins said that one of the reasons for the delay was the pressure of Third Eye Blind's previous successes. "For me it was probably a combination of second guessing myself and the lyrics," Jenkins said. "After having two multi-platinum albums if you don't feel somehow, self-conscious then you're just not paying attention. But the thing is making an album that's self-conscious never works to me. I like albums that are spontaneous and ingenuous and genuine."

Third Eye Blind is winding down its Within Arms Reach Tour of small clubs. Four dates remain on the tour, which wraps up Monday (May 12) in State College, Pennsylvania. The band will then play various radio festival shows.
