(2/12/01, 5 p.m. ET) - Singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill has settled her case with New-Ark Entertainment for an undisclosed amount, reports AP.
The singer was initially sued by drum programmer Vada Nobles, singer Rasheem Pugh, pianist Tejumold Newton, and guitarist Johan Newton--collectively known as New-Ark Entertainment--in November 1998. The members of New-Ark allege that Hill used their songs and production skills on her 1998 solo debut, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, which sold more than 7 million copies, but that she failed to properly credit them. New-Ark was credited with supplying additional production, additional musical contribution, and additional lyrical contribution, while Hill was credited with writing, producing, and arranging the entire album. New-Ark Entertainment was seeking co-writing and co-production credits, in addition to one-third of the profits from The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill.
In related news, Hill's former Fugees bandmates Wyclef Jean and Prakrazel "Pras" Michel testified on her behalf during the proceedings. Their actions might be a sign that the trio could be resolving their differences and returning to the studio to produce a follow-up to their 1996 classic, The Score.
