(9/2/99, 1 p.m. PDT - Tonic's current hit, "You Wanted More," is currently No. 4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, but it almost never made it out of the recording studio. The band tells LAUNCH that the song, which appears on the American Pie soundtrack, will be included on its forthcoming album, Sugar, due out in November. Singer Emerson Hart, bass player Dan Lavery, and guitarist Jeff Russo say that they had no expectations for the track. "It's always a pleasant surprise when you get success," Hart says. "I don't think we ever really expect anything, because we just do what we do, and if we get some success, that's great." Adds Lavery, "Not to mention the three of us didn't really hear that as a 'single,' you know, and we were told by several people, 'You don't know how wrong you are.' And fortunately they proved it to us." The band will hit the road starting in late September, starting off with four or five warm-up dates, before starting a tour with the Goo Goo Dolls on Oct. 2. Features on Tonic and the Goo Goo Dolls are available on LAUNCH.com. -- Darren Davis, New York Got news tips, comments, or questions? Send them to newstips@launch.com.
