Mick Jones Says The Cult Is Ready To Rock
06/07/2000 6:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(6/7/00, 6 p.m. ET) - Though he has plenty to do with Foreigner -- a new tour kicks off Friday (June 9) in El Paso, Texas, and an anthology, Jukebox Heroes, is due out in August -- guitarist Mick Jones is also busy producing a new album for the reunited The Cult in Los Angeles. The sessions mark the first time the Cult has worked on a new album since 1994, and Jones tells LAUNCH that he thinks fans of the hard rock group's past work will be pleased with the material. "This'll be a Cult album, with some surprises, I think," Jones says. "Ian [Astbury] is singing fantastically well, and Billy [Duffy] is at his best. It's just a great vibe working with them; they've been through the wars. I've been through the wars, but we're out of those wars a bit now. It's intense, it's really focused, and it's a joy working with them, and I think we're going to surprise a lot of people with this album. It's definitely going to have a lot of balls." Atlantic Records will release the still-untitled new Cult album, which is tentatively scheduled for 2001. -- Gary Graff, Detroit
