(8/8/00, 7 a.m. ET) - Former Judas Priest lead singer Rob Halford makes his return to record stores today (August 8) with his new band, Halford, and its debut release, Resurrection.

The metal god tells LAUNCH that the album name represents his current place in his career and in his life. Plus, he says, it has a nice heavy-metal edge to it. "That name kept cropping up while I was in the writing mode, and I also like it 'cause it's got that heavy metal-esque atmosphere attached to it," he explains. "Certain portions of metal music have got this usage of words that could have some kind of religious overtones. I don't know where that came from. . . Can you say 'Judas Priest?'"

Halford adds, "Resurrection to me means, certainly, not coming back from the dead, 'cause I ain't dead yet. It's all about the future, moving ahead, optimism, hope, and those are virtues that I really hold near and dear to me."

Halford remains on tour with Iron Maiden and Queensryche. The tour arrives in Hartford, Connecticut tonight (August 8).
