More News From Nashville's Big Night

(9/25/98, 6 p.m. PDT) - Folks on Nashville's Music Row are still nursing hangovers after a week of parties, black-tie events, showcases and other Country Music Association-week activities, capped by the CMA Awards. Among the news tidbits from Nashville's big night: BNA recording artist Mindy McCready was squired around to post-awards show parties by two beefy Tennessee Oilers football players. McCready, recently betrothed to TV's Superman, Dean Cain, kissed her man of steel goodbye a few weeks ago and seems none the worse for the wear. Saying she's happier than ever, McCready told myLAUNCH she's beginning work on her third album. DreamWorks Records' Linda Davis set tongues wagging about her sexy awards-show outfit, a black bandeaux covered with a net-like top. Davis, currently singing backup on the Reba McEntire/ Brooks & Dunn tour, wears a similar outfit on the road, only in blue. Apparently the roadies like the outfit as much as TV audiences did: "They say I look like I've been slam-dunked and walked away with the net," Davis quipped. Uber-producers James Stroud and Byron Gallimore, who shared Album Of The Year trophies for Tim McGraw's Everywhere, missed their moment of glory. Neither was able to make it to the mic for an acceptance speech, a result of Alvin & the Chipmunks-like game of "After you." Said Stroud, "We were standing on stage and I told him, 'You go first," and Byron said, 'No, you go,' and I said, 'No, YOU go," and by the time we got it figured out, they had ushered us off the stage." -- Lisa Zhito, Nashville
