Goo Goo Dolls To Submit To Howard Stern

(9/22/98, 12 p.m. PDT) - After the Goo Goo Dolls' initial refusal to appear on the Howard Stern show led to a ban of their music on Stern flagship station WXRK (K-Rock) New York, the band has reconsidered and will appear on the nationally-syndicated radio program on Wednesday (Sept. 23) morning, Stern said on his show this morning.

Although the Goo Goo Dolls are reportedly fans of the Stern show, they became upset after Stern repeatedly mocked the band's monster-hit ballad "Iris." When the band turned down an invite to appear on the show, Stern got WXRK to ban the Goo Goo Dolls from the influential modern rock station's playlist until the Goo Goo Dolls agreed to perform the song on the show wearing sailor suits while men slow-danced together to the song.

Now the plans have changed a bit. Stern and his morning crew cohorts--Jackie "The Jokeman" Martling, Fred "Eric" Norris, Gary "Baba Booey" Dell'Abate and "Stuttering" John Melendez, as well as special Vin The Retard--will slow-dance to the song wearing sailor suits and thongs, in homage to a scene from the movie Philadelphia, as the Goos perform.

Equal-opportunity offender Stern also put out a call to listeners. "If any gay gentlemen want to be part of a serious dance party, give us a call," he said this morning. Just in case anyone has questions about the Goos' sexual preference, Stern noted that the Goo Goo Dolls aren't gay, it's just that "Iris" is "a little femme."
