(9/16/97)Here They Go Again On Their Own: Whitesnake And Twisted Sister Reunions

First there was the sell-out/sold-out Kiss reunion tour. Then David Lee Roth triumphantly returned to the Van Halen fold...albeit for only about 10 minutes. THEN Motley Crue reunited with Generation Swine poster boy Vince Neil. Now, two other monsters of rock are jumping on the reunion bandwagon. First off, Robert Plant knock-off David Coverdale has reformed his Led Zep knock-off band Whitesnake, who are most famous for having that starlet from Bachelor Party back-flip over fleets of Mercedes in their videos. Whitesnake split up in 1990, but Coverdale says, "I always felt uncomfortable--it never felt finished or resolved." Solution? This year's "farewell" album Restless Heart , which Coverdale dubs "an opportunity to finish it off appropriately." A farewell tour will follow. "I don't think there'll be a dry eye or seat in the house," Coverdale boldly predicts. "My instructions to my people are to tour until the last person who wants to Whitesnake has seen it." In perhaps more promising reunion news, war-painted metal jokesters Twisted Sister still wanna rock, and are bouncing back with their own tour and new album. The high-camp metal clowns--also famous for their videos, although theirs featured teens banging their heads against school lockers and/or morphing into Dee Snider instead of nymphets sprawled atop luxury autos--broke up 10 years ago. Guess they don't want to "Stay Hungry" anymore.
