Mammoth Deal For Dust Brothers

(1/31/98) - Disney-owned Mammoth Records--home to the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Seven Mary Three, Fu Manchu and Joe Henry--has entered into a 50/50 joint venture agreement with Nickelbag Records, the label headed by production/ songwriting impresarios the Dust Brothers, a.k.a. Michael Simpson and John King, with Los Angeles nightclub owner Mitchell Frank. Nickelbag Records, founded by the trio in 1994, is based in Silver Lake, California. Artists on the Nickelbag roster include Sukia, 10 Cents and the Dust Brothers, who are best known for their production work for Beck, the Rolling Stones and the Beastie Boys. Mammoth Records will provide marketing and promotion support for Nickelbag releases worldwide. The first release to enter the Nickelbag/ Mammoth pipeline is the soundtrack to Orgazmo, the new film by South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The Orgazmo soundtrack is scheduled for release May '98. Regarding the venture, Simpson remarked, "I'm going to Disneyland!"
