(10/30/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- Former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach debuts in his second Broadway role tonight (October 30) portraying the character Riff Raff in the The Rocky Horror Show, in the stage adaptation to the cult film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The show reopens after briefly closing because theater-goers stayed away from New York City's Broadway after the September 11 attacks.
Bach was in his own slump before the attacks. He told LAUNCH that September 11 served as a wake-up call. "After the events of September 11, I said 'That's it. It's time to get off my ass and get back to New York City.' It was like a calling," he said. "Like everybody else in New York City, I wanted to be on the bucket brigade, bringing out stuff. I felt inadequate and in the entertainment industry I felt like I want to get my hands dirty and do something. Of course we can't all be down there doing that. They call me up, 'Rocky Horror Show, how would you like to start as Riff Raff?' They actually offered me the lead role first, but my voice is way too high for that, and I don't know if I look that good in panties. But I watched the movie, I go, 'Riff Raff, "Time Warp," I can do that.'"
The heavy metal singer last appeared in the lead role in the Broadway play Jekyll & Hyde. Of that experience he told LAUNCH, "It really, really was the creative and personal highlight of my whole life because I got to use every part of anything I ever learned: stamina, singing, acting, physicality and again, stamina."
