KROQ's Rodney Plays Santa

(12/5/97) - Longtime Los Angeles radio DJ and scenester Rodney Bingenheimer has issued Santa's Got A GTO, a collection of Christmas classics covered by L.A. acts of note.

The DJ, joined by drummer Clem Burke of Blondie (who revealed that Blondie's "Atomic" will appear as the theme for an international Coca-Cola commercial early next year) bassist/ DJ Chris Carter of Dramarama and a cast ofL.A. nightlife hoi polloi, previewed the disc at a party held Tuesday at Checca in Los Angeles. Music was provided by the Wondermints, who most recently served as the backup band for actor Mike Myers' Austin Powers character at the MTV Movie Awards.

The disc is a benefit for the estate of Marian Bingenheimer, the DJ's mother. Appearing are Redd Kross, Nina Hagen and the Characters with Rodney Bingenheimer, among others. The disc can be ordered directly from Dionysus Records (P.O. Box 1975, Burbank, CA, 91507) for $12. California residents must add $1 for tax.
