(5/16/03, 1 p.m. ET) -- Noel Redding, bassist for the Jimi Hendrix Experience, was at peace with himself and his place in life when he died on Sunday (May 11), according to his manager, Ian Grant. Grant said that while Redding wasn't happy about how he thought he'd been cheated financially, he didn't spend his days complaining about how things had turned out.
"He wasn't treading the boards still, trying to be someone, as you are when...you know, he became someone--he became someone very significant in the rock world--and he came to terms with it,” Grant said. “He didn't die bitter. Noel always had a chuckle."
A public viewing for Redding takes place on Friday (May 16) at 7:30 p.m. at O'Sullivan's Funeral Home in the town of Clonakilty in West Cork, Ireland. His funeral procession leaves O'Sullivan's at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday (May 18), with a service set for 3 p.m. at St. James Church in the town of Ardfield.
Flowers can be sent to the funeral home, or donations in Redding's name can be made to Mount Carmel Hospital in Clonakilty, West Cork, Ireland.
Redding's fellow musicians in Cork will pay tribute to him with a show on Friday at De Barra's, the pub in Clonakilty where Redding's last group, Noel Redding & Friends, played every Friday.
