(1/7/03, 1 p.m. ET) -- Third Eye Blind is poised to release its third album, Out Of The Vein, in March. The album was initially scheduled for release by summer of last year. Part of the delay was the decision to go out on a summer tour with the Goo Goo Dolls and Vanessa Carlton.
The tour gave the band a chance to road-test some of the material. Singer-songwriter Stephan Jenkins told us how the new material went over with fans.
"'Blinded' seemed to go over really well," Jenkins said. "But it's hard to tell. I was really glad that...I think we're going to open the album with a song called 'Palm Reader.' I wasn't sure people were going to get it, and then I saw everyone dancing to it. It was really great."
The band also performed the still-unreleased "Blinded" in front of a national TV audience as part of Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve 2002.
Jenkins added that he wants Out Of The Vein to be different from today's rock radio. "I mean, what I'm looking to do is make something that is really warm and earthy and real sounding, you know?" Jenkins said. "That's my goal instead of making these overly compressed, slick, L.A. rock records that I think people are so sick of. And, like, trying to make it sound louder and louder on radio is such a non-musical endeavor."
