Moby Praises Anti-War Protests, Decries 'National Apathy'

Darryl Morden

(1/23/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- Moby has praised the thousands who demonstrated in Washington D.C. and San Francisco over the weekend against a possible war with Iraq.

In a recent journal posting on his official website the electronic pop artist says, "Funny that the Bush administration is projecting a budget shortfall of 200 to 300 billion dollars for fiscal year 2003. And at the same time they are saying that the war in Iraq could end up costing between 200 and 300 billion dollars. Ah well. And kudos to all of the people who braved the freezing cold weather to go to the anti-war march in Washington."

In a follow-up post, Moby goes on to talk about the 2000 presidential election, Enron, and other corporate scandals and the events of 9/11, saying, "The worst terrorist attack on the United States was perpetrated by people who had been trained by money that came from the United States (CIA training camps in Afghanistan) and led by a leader (Bin Laden) who comes from a family with long-standing ties to Bush and [Vice President Dick] Cheney. Not to mention that the Bush-appointed heads of the CIA and NSC did nothing to prevent this terrorist attack, even ignoring information that had been presented to them by their own agents."

Moby then takes to task what he sees as a placid public. "No one in the United States seemed to mind or complain. It's safe to say that more Americans can tell you about Anna Nicole Smith's battle with weight gain than they can about George Bush's involvement with Ken Lay and Enron. It will be interesting to see what the long term fruits of our national apathy will be, cos so far they've been pretty foul."

Moby's entire extensive postings can be found in the journal section of moby.com.
