(5/12/00, 3 p.m. ET) - The Cult will release its first new song in five years on June 6 -- "Painted On My Heart" is included on the soundtrack to the film Gone In Sixty Seconds. "Painted On My Heart" was to be recorded by Aerosmith (LAUNCH, 2/15), but they backed out of the project in early March, thus opening the door for the Cult.

The movie's soundtrack also includes songs by Moby, Method Man, Citizen King, and DMX. The film stars Nicolas Cage and Oscar winner Angelina Jolie, and centers on a car-thief syndicate. The film Gone In Sixty Seconds is out June 9.

In other Cult news, the official website reports that the band has recorded the song "Wild Child" for the upcoming Doors tribute album. These two new Cult tracks are the first releases from the band since one-time Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum returned. The band has also added Martyn Lenoble, formerly of Porno For Pyros, to the lineup as bassist.

In addition to the two new Cult songs, lead singer Ian Astbury has stepped away from the band to record "Flame On" with ex-Black Sabbath member Tony Iommi, which will be featured on Iommi's upcoming solo release this summer; no exact release date has been set. Iommi's album will also feature special guest Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins.
