(8/18/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - Spin Doctors lead singer Chris Barron has been diagnosed with a rare paralysis of his vocal chords, it was confirmed today. It is uncertain whether he will ever be able to sing again.

According to a press release issued by Universal Records, the Spin Doctors' label, Barron is continuing to meet with medical specialists. Doctors, however, express concern over the gravity of the situation, and have indicated that he may never regain the full use of his voice. At present, Barron cannot speak above a whisper.

All activities for the band have subsequently been put on hold while awaiting further news on Barron's condition. The Spin Doctors released their first studio album in over three years, Here Comes The Bride, in early June.
