Marcy Playground Reaches Out To Suicide Survivors On The Web

(9/4/98, 12 p.m. PDT) - In an effort to comfort suicide survivors, alternative rockers Marcy Playground have provided a link on their website (www.marcyplayground.com) to the "Living With Suicide" site (www.pbs.org/weblab/living).

Surviving suicide is an issue very close to the band, as the father of bass player Dylan Keefe took his own life several years ago. The tragedy happened on the same day that Keefe met Marcy Playground singer/ guitarist John Wozniak.

The bass player's brother, John Keefe, who is an award-winning journalist and a documentary producer, created the website aimed at suicide survivors. The site contains an essay by Dylan Keefe about the death of his father.

"[Suicide] shatters too many lives and too many families to sweep it under the table," Dylan Keefe writes in the essay. "It should not be any more taboo to talk about my father's death than had he died of a heart attack. But somehow it is."
