Linda Davis Moves Centerstage

(9/3/98, 6 p.m. PDT) - Not many backup singers on tour with major acts are also stopping by radio stations to promote their newest single, but such is the case for country singer Linda Davis. Currently singing backup on the Reba McEntire/ Brooks & Dunn mega-tour, Davis also has her own song on the country charts, "I Wanna Remember This." The track is the first issue from her forthcoming DreamWorks Nashville debut, I'm Yours, which hits stores Nov. 3. This scenario has Davis in the somewhat schizophrenic position of being the star of some listener-appreciation radio promotions in key markets along the tour, then reverting to the less-glamorous backup singer mode for her nightly shows. It helps that Davis won a Grammy with McEntire on the duet, "Does He Love You." McEntire calls Davis to centerstage each night to perform the 1993 hit that launched Davis's career. Though two albums with Arista Nashville failed to deliver on that career promise, hopes are that Davis's DreamWorks effort will fare better. -- Lisa Zhito, Nashville
