Ratt Fans Come Out Of The Cellar

(1/11/98) - Is hair metal making a comeback? Ratt's sold-out two-night stint this weekend at L.A.'s Billboard Live (formerly the Sunset Strip haven Gazarri's) would make you think so. Ratt recently released a new album, Collage, on their own label, and their second standing-room-only show (which, oddly enough, took place the same night as a Warrant show across town) received a hipster stamp of approval when it was attended by Chemical Brother Ed Rowlands, Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson, lead Smashing Pumpkin Billy Corgan and punk-rock renaissance man Henry Rollins, all of whom stayed until the end of Ratt's well-received encore, "Round And Round." Later this month, Billboard Live will host a concert by Ratt's peers L.A. Guns, as well as the grand reopening of the Cathouse (the Hollywood hangout run by Riki Rachman and Faster Pussycat singer Taime Downe that, along with Gazarri's, was prominently featured in the metal rockumentary The Decline Of Western Civilization Pt. 2). Whether Corgan, Rowlands, Rollins or Ramirez will show up for these head-banging happenings remains to be seen.
