Chrissie Hynde And Jeff Beck Exchange Favors

(6/28/99, 1 p.m. PDT) - The Pretenders' new album, Viva El Amor!, features a cameo by Jeff Beck, who plays a solo on the track "Legalise Me." Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde has been a longtime friend of Beck's, and she says that the two have wanted to work together for quite some time. When Hynde wrote "Legalise Me," she felt it was a perfect vehicle in which to incorporate a Beck solo. "I did kind of hear him," she says. "He just plays on the solo...I really love it when he plays rock, but he has a little tendency to do that less as he goes off to Planet Beck all the time. I felt like if I was going to bestow any grace on the world at all, it would be to get Jeff Beck to play rock guitar, which is what every rock-guitar lover dreams of. So when we did that song I said, 'Wow, let's get Jeff to play on this.'" Hynde returned the favor on Beck's latest album, Who Else!, adding vocals to the song "Space For The Poppa."
