(4/3/00, 10 a.m. ET) - The Offspring, Pennywise, X, and Social Distortion's Mike Ness are among the artists slated to perform at a concert in Irvine, California on May 6 to benefit the family of Ness's band mate, guitarist Dennis Danell, who died from a brain aneurysm outside his Newport Beach home on February 29. The event will take place at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater and will also feature T.S.O.L., Punk Rock Karaoke, Strung Gurus, Rock Star Barbecue, and the other surviving members of Danell's longtime band. All proceeds will go to aid Danell's wife, Christie and their three-year-old son and six-month-old daughter. The 38-year-old guitarist was instrumental in forming of Social D. with Ness in Fullerton, California in 1979. He remained a member as the group grew from Clash-like punk style to a more refined major-label rock sound that spawned radio hits like "Ball And Chain" and "Story Of My Life." "Doing this benefit show is a way for me to say goodbye to Dennis in my own way," said Ness, in a statement. "We were as close as family and it means so much to me to play this benefit for his wife and children." Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge added, "Dennis may have left this earth and will be greatly missed by many, but his music and spirit will live on forever." -- Neal Weiss, Los Angeles
