Aussie Awards Sow Savage Garden

(8/27/97) - The nominees have been announced for the 11th Annual Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards, the down under equivalent of the Grammy, and for reasons unexplained the Brisbane band Savage Garden have garnered a record total of 13 nominations out of a possible 26. Savage Garden--most well-known in the U.S. for their top 10 Roxette-soundalike hit "I Want You"--are up for top awards like Best Group, Best Album and Best Single. The biggest Aussie musical export these days, Silverchair, are nominated for six awards, and will perform at the ARIA ceremony being held September 22nd. Other contenders for various awards are Spiderbait, Powderfinger, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Paul Kelly, Human Nature, Crowded House, Dave Graney and John Farnham.
