Hanson, Carole King, And Aaron Neville To Honor Songwriters

(6/5/00, 7 a.m. ET) - Hanson, Carole King, Phoebe Snow, and J.D. Souther are among the growing list of artists scheduled to perform at the 31st Annual Songwriters' Hall Of Fame Induction Awards on June 15 in New York.

The artists will be performing the works of those songwriters being inducted into the Songwriters' Hall Of Fame, including James Brown, Don Henley and Glenn Frey, Curtis Mayfield (posthumously), James Taylor, and Brian Wilson.

Special recognition awards will be given to legendary songwriters Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller, who will be honored with the Johnny Mercer Award; Neil Diamond, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award; Johnny Mathis, who will accept the Hitmaker Award; Jimmie Davis, who will receive the Towering Song Award for "You Are My Sunshine"; Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons, who will accept the Towering Song Award for "All Of Me"'; and publisher Julian Aberbach, who will take the Abe Olman Publisher Award.

Pop trio Hanson will honor Brian Wilson by performing a medley of Beach Boys songs; James Taylor's songs will be celebrated with a performance by friend and fellow songwriter Carole King; the late Curtis Mayfield's songs will be performed by Brian McKnight; J.D. Souther will honor longtime friends and writing partners Don Henley and Glenn Frey (Souther co-wrote several Eagles hits, including "Best Of My Love," "New Kid In Town," and "Heartache Tonight"); Aaron Neville will pay tribute to Johnny Mathis with a medley of his songs; and Phoebe Snow will pay tribute to the songs of Julian Aberbach.

The awards and dinner will be held at Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in Manhattan. More performing artists will be added in the coming week.
