Steve Winwood Comments On Noel Redding's Death

(5/14/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Steve Winwood expressed his sympathies over the death of Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Noel Redding. Redding died Sunday (May 11) at his home in Ireland, and Winwood said, "Noel was a great guy, a real gentleman, and the perfect complement to Jimi's experience."

Winwood recorded with Redding and Hendrix on the1968 album, Electric Ladyland.

Redding's cause of death has not been announced, nor have funeral and memorial plans.

Redding was Hendrix's bassist between 1966 and 1969.
