(9/24/03, 1 p.m. ET) -- Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme's latest side project is Desert Sessions 9 & 10, the newest in a long-running series of musical collaborations that he's been organizing since 1997. The current edition features performances by A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese and bassist Jeordie White--a.k.a. Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson fame--singer P.J. Harvey, Dean Ween of Ween, and several others.
Homme told LAUNCH that a rumored Desert Sessions concert would be difficult, but not out of the question. "Live shows would be a first for Desert Sessions, yeah," Homme said. "It's not a simple thing to do. It's like, 'Who's got the accordion case?' There's a lot to contend with, you know. We're talkin' about maybe doing a sort of Last Waltz, where we play two shows in London and two in New York, and film the thing, and do it like theatre."
Desert Sessions 9 & 10 arrived in stores Tuesday (September 23), on Homme's own Rekords Rekords label. It's distributed by Ipecac Recordings, which is owned by ex-Faith No More frontman Mike Patton.
A live Desert Sessions performance is rumored to be in the works for the Tonight Show With Jay Leno later this fall. It's not known at present which performers would be involved.
Queens Of The Stone Age plays in East Lansing, Michigan, tonight with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. After finishing up with the Chili Peppers tomorrow, September 25, in Milwaukee, the band will headline their own U.S. tour throughout the month of October.
The Last Waltz, released in 1978, was director Martin Scorsese's documentary of the last concert ever performed by legendary '60s rock group the Band.
