Linkin Park Album Certified Triple Platinum

(10/6/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- Linkin Park's second full-length album, Meteora, has been certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association Of America for sales of over three million copies. The album, which came out in late March, debuted at Number One on the Billboard album chart with sales of over 810,000 copies in its first week of release. Linkin Park's debut, Hybrid Theory, was the best-selling album of 2001, but took 12 weeks to reach Number One.

Linkin Park DJ Joseph "Mr." Hahn has acquired the rights to a dark fantasy novel called King Rat, by British author China Mieville, for his feature film directorial debut. Hahn told MTV.com, "My agent gave me the book and I loved it. It had a lot of elements I like. A lot of fantasy, a lot of modern-day culture, some background of drum 'n' bass music--so a little bit of everything I'm into." Pre-production on the film will have to wait until at least the end of the year, when Linkin Park finishes its current tour.

Hahn recently directed two more Linkin Park videos, for "From the Inside" and "Numb."

Despite protests from Islamic groups, Linkin Park recently received permission from the Malaysian government to play a concert in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur on October 15. The band must not scream, jump around, use dirty words, or make obscene gestures during the show, as per the government's code of "artist performance ethics."

A live album and DVD are both on the way from Linkin Park in November.
