(5/29/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- Staind's new album 14 Shades Of Grey will debut at Number One on the Billboard 200 album chart, with just over 221,000 copies sold. Deftones’s new self-titled album will debut at Number Two with sales totaling just over 167,000.
Staind vocalist Aaron Lewis said that 14 Shades Of Grey's first single "Price To Play" was one of the last songs written for the album, and he said it deals with the pressure of making hit singles and striving to have the Number One album. "Because of the state of the business right now and everything else, everybody is so freaked out not to have a huge monumental record,” Lewis said. “Because the way it is right now, you know, just a good record might flop."
Other rock debuts of note: Powerman 5000's Transform debuted at Number 27, Live's Birds Of Prey debuted at Number 28, and Less Than Jake's Anthem44 debuted at Number 45.
