(5/29/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- "When I'm Gone" by 3 Doors Down reached Number One on the Top 40 Mainstream singles chart a few weeks back, and is now slowly making its way back down. Despite Top 40 success, vocalist Brad Arnold still views 3 Doors Down as rock band, and shivers at mention that they're a pop band.
"You know our base has always been and always will be in rock," Arnold said. "Because we're a rock band. And I've (laughs) seen articles of, '...3 Doors Down, the pop rock band...' It's like, 'Dang it, don't call us pop!'"
Arnold acknowledged he's thankful for the chart success and is amused by the fact that "When I'm Gone" is played alongside hip-hop and other styles of music. "We will and have and always will call ourselves a rock band, which is what we are," Arnold said. "But we are thankful for the Top 40 success that we've had. And mainly just, that's a big market. But aside from that it's just cool to see a rock song hanging in there with all the hip-hop and all the rap and all that stuff. The coolest part of it for me is just to see a rock song doing well."
"When I'm Gone" is still in the Top 10 of the Top 40 mainstream chart, and it's still one of the most played recurrent Modern Rock songs.
3 Doors Down is currently on a break and embarks on a full U.S tour staring July 5 in Muskegon, Michigan.
