Sugar Ray, Tonic, And Collective Soul On Valentine's Day

(2/14/00, 1 p.m. ET) - The girls love him, but Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath is a self-professed creep. Although he's gotten several marriage proposals, he's declined all of them and says it's a good thing. When asked by LAUNCH how he would spend Valentine's Day, McGrath replied, "I'm so unromantic, so Valentine's Day becomes a day of saying 'Sorry' to anyone I'm with at the time." The unromantic McGrath is currently writing songs for the follow-up to Sugar Ray's double-platinum album, 14:59. Tonic singer Emerson Hart, who wrote one of the top romantic songs of the late 1990s, "If You Could Only See," has a bit more traditional take on the holiday. "I'm pretty traditional when it comes to Valentine's Day. I'm all about some beautiful, sweet-smelling flowers, tube of roses, not really red roses, I think -- those have been overplayed over the years," he said. "So like French tulips, Dutch tulips, tube of roses, then a nice evening at home, fireplace... great sex. You know, those are all the things that are essential in the part of romance." Collective Soul frontman Ed Roland will spend Valentine's Day his wife Stephanie. Roland tells LAUNCH what he remembers most about Valentine's Day, and what he thinks it will be like for his son one day. "Those little cards I used to give out and get when I was in third grade and fourth grade -- those were the grooviest little cards. You know, so I have a little boy now, so I can't wait until he has Valentine's Day. 50 of 'em... find that little special chick." Roland and Stephanie are expecting another baby later this year. -- Darren Davis, New York Got news tips, comments, or questions? Send them to newstips@launch.com.
