(6/18/99, 4 p.m. PDT) - Former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell has finished his new album, Euphoria Morning, which is due Sept. 21 on Interscope Records (LAUNCH, 6/15/99).

Cornell says that he worked on the material for the album in a considerably different way than he did with his former band. "With Soundgarden, I assumed the role as another instrument in the band: the lyrics I wrote were often influenced by the mood of the music," he says. "With this solo record, the reverse would happen--the music is tailored to the mood of the lyrics. Music is of course important, but I wanted the lyrics and vocals to be the central focus. Once the lyrics become the most important point of songs, you can't really get more personal than that."

The first single, "Can't Change Me," will hit radio on Aug. 9, and it will be accompanied by a video. The complete track listing for Euphoria Morning is as follows: "Can't Change Me," "Flutter Girl," "Preaching The End Of The World," "Follow My Way," "When I'm Down," "Mission," Wave Goodbye," "Moonchild," "Sweet Euphoria," "Disappearing One," "Pillow Of Your Bones," and "Steel Rain."

The album was produced by Cornell, with Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider of the band Eleven in their studio. Cornell will tour theaters in the fall. Also featured on the album is former Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron.
