Harry Connick Jr. Mirrors Ricky Martin's Moves

(6/16/99, 4 p.m. PDT) - Ricky Martin has risen to the top of the pop scene with his Latin-flavored music and captivating dance moves. His hit single, "Livin' La Vida Loca," spent five weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

Martin's popularity soared after a performance at the Grammy Awards in February, and he has been "Livin' La Vida Loca" ever since. Tonight, Martin is one of the featured performers on the Fifth Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards (LAUNCH, 5/27). The show, which was taped late last month, airs tonight on Fox.

Backstage at the show, singer/ actor Harry Connick Jr. was asked if Martin's sudden popularity has affected him. "Right now he's really hot and that's great...It's been, like, since the Grammys that everybody's talking about him, so it hasn't affected me too much...[But] I do his moves in the mirror naked," he added with a laugh.

Martin himself says he doesn't worry that all this attention will be short-lived, and he is taking steps to preserve his longevity. "You know, I don't waste my energy thinking that 'Oh, this is the end.' To the contrary...I want to come back to America in 15 years...I'm only presenting good music and quality."
