Eagle-Eye Cherry Eyes June Release

(3/31/00, 10 a.m. ET) -
Eagle-Eye Cherry is finishing up his next album, currently piecing together three different recording sessions for the collection. He hopes the new set will prove a successful follow-up to his first album, 1998's
Desireless, which spawned the hit, "Save Tonight." When asked if he had become a better songwriter over the years, Cherry told LAUNCH, "Uh, well, it depends. When I started writing, I was kind of into writing songs about how I wanted the world to be. I guess a little bit in the mode of [
Bob] Marley and stuff and talking about love and stuff. I think now I'm writing more about... songs about the way the world is, about characters, you know, that... observations about certain characters that are going through certain hardships. So I wouldn't say I'm more cynical, but maybe I'm more of a realist in a way, but there's still more of a message brewing." Cherry is still completing his third session, but the first two were very productive. In the first one -- in Stockholm -- he worked with co-producer Adam Kviman and their time together brought about the songs "Together We'll Die," "Burning Up," "Heaven," "Lonely Days," "First To Fall," and "Miss Fortune." For his second session, Cherry worked in New York with producer Rick Rubin and he came away with songs "One Good Reason," "Promises Made," "Are You Still Having Fun," "Long Way Around," "She Didn't Believe," and "Shades Of Gray." He also said that for the forthcoming album, he's doing a rewrite of the song he wrote for
Santana's
Supernatural album, "Wishing It Was." -- Darren Davis, New York Got news tips, comments, or questions? Send them to newstips@launch.com.
