Audioslave United In 'Rock Power' After Managerial Drama

(10/14/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Audioslave is set to release its self-titled debut album on November 19, but for a while it looked like the supergroup might never get off the ground. The band's singer, former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, had his own manager while his cohorts--former Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim C., and drummer Brad Wilk--were managed by someone else. It proved to be a volatile mix.

The band was confirmed for this summer's OzzFest and then pulled out. Morello told LAUNCH that Audioslave now has new management, but that it almost didn't survive some early turmoil. "Well, there was a tremendous amount of drama and unnecessary conflict, which was generated by our managerial situation," he said. "Timmy and Brad and I had a management company, and Chris had a separate manager, and there was not enough room in the picture for both of them, and it created an enormous amount of conflict, which for a while undermined the band's solidarity."

Morello said once the management issue was settled, they could get back to the obvious chemistry that was discovered. "We couldn't be more united, a great deal of love and respect for each other, which we've had even during the OzzFest period, and so (we) are united in our rock power and looking forward to taking it to the masses," he said.

Audioslave's "Cochise" is currently Number 13 in its second week on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.
