(5/25/00, 10 a.m. ET) - In a most unexpected pairing, hard rockers The Cult have recorded "Painted On My Heart," a song plucked from the pen of pop-songwriting maestro Diane Warren. The tune is slated as the first single from the soundtrack to Gone In Sixty Seconds, and Warren tells LAUNCH that it's a match made in heaven.

"It's one of the best records that I've ever heard," Warren says. "It's certainly one of the best records for a song of mine -- I mean, it's just unique, you know? A big orchestra at the end. It's very the Cult, but it's very different at the same time. It's very minor-key and dark and. . .it's very different for me. No one will ever think I wrote it, but I did."

The song was originally intended for Aerosmith, but that band pulled out in the 11th hour, leaving the door open for the Cult. "The Cult heard it and loved it," says Warren. "It just goes to show you when something was meant to be. It was meant to be their song."The soundtrack arrives in stores on June 6. The movie, starring Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie, hits the big screen on June 9.

Meanwhile, the Cult is also readying a remastered version of Pure Cult: The Singles 1984-1995. Look for the 19-track collection also on June 6.
